The Opposition in parliament has laughed at the Speaker Anita Among’s pronouncement yesterday against opposition Members of Parliament on boycott.

Addressing journalists at parliament, the Leader of Opposition LoP Mathias Mpuuga said speaker’s statements were diversionary and mere threats because the boycott by opposition MPs was officially communicated to the office of the speaker.

Yesterday Speaker Among issues directives against boycotting MPs suspending all their privileges like banning them from traveling both inland and abroad, suspending them from attending committing meetings, directing accountability committees usually chaired by opposition MPs to vote for new chairpersons and others.

Mpuuga says the speaker should be neutral and follow up on the demands by the opposition in responding to the human rights violation rather than playing hide and seek games.

Meanwhile, while communicating to the house today Anita has continued sending warnings to the boycotting opposition MPs with a countdown that today is the 6th day of their absence to the plenary.

Speaker Among also said that she won’t accept to be held liable for the wrongs committed when she wasn’t a speaker.

On the side of the government, the government chief whip Hamson Obua said government has nothing more to offer to the opposition demands apart from what was tabled by the State Minister of Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi.
