The opposition Forum for democratic change has blamed President Yoweri Museveni for the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

In a press conference at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, the party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat noted that President Museveni behaved like some other leaders who prioritized truck drivers over the health of Ugandans yet he ought to have closed the borders to truck drivers as they searched for a solution unlike now when the spread of Covid-19 has increased leading to community infections.

This comes after the Ministry of Health has reported 30 new Covid-19 cases with four more frontline health workers and three security personnel tested positive for the virus as of Monday June 08th 2020 brining the tally of Uganda’s case number to 646.

The total number of frontline health workers who have so far tested positive currently stands at 22.

According the results announced, five out of the thirty new cases are truck drivers who arrived via Elegu and Busia border points, three security personnel while eighteen are alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases from Amuru, Tororo, Buikwe, Kyankwanzi, Arua, Buliisa, Kisoro, Wakiso and Kampala districts.

Additional, 51 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for the virus were handed over to the authorities of the countries of origin. These were from Kenya (43), Tanzania (4), Tanzania (4), Burundi (3) and Eritrea (1).

The total number of recoveries currently stands at 103 with no fatalities registered yet due to the disease.

Now FDC demands that all Ugandans at border areas such as Mutukula in Rakai, Busia, Malaba and Elegu, must be tested to ascertain their cell status.

The country had tried to contain the spread of the Pandemic however with the easing of the lockdown since May 26th 2020, infection levels have shoot up by almost 90%.

Dr. Monica Musenero an epidemiologist and veterinarian is worried of the worst situation over the increasing numbers of Covid-19 cases.

Meanwhile FDC has also rejected what they called plans based on Covid- 19 pandemic to phase out boda boda transport yet everyone is fighting for survival at this critical time of general economic downturn calling for a grace period of 3 years to boda bodas before government introduces her Bus service transport system in Kampala.
