The Catholic Church has called for dialogue to save the mother planet Earth whose violation has caused devastative effects to humanity.

In the Pope’s Letter Laudato Si, that reflects on all violations on the Mother Planet Earth, like pollution, deforestation, uncontrolled mining, encroachment on wetlands and water bodies and application of toxic substances are just a few, and to what human beings are doing which has left the Planet Earth destroyed.

In the reflection about Laudato Si the letter published in 2015 warning against destruction of the environment, its after effects have been experienced five year later world over, and Pope Francis on May 24th announced renewed reflection on the later to alert the world to refrain from the bad human activities against the environment.

Fr. Andrew Kato a Professor in Canon Law of the congregation of the Apostles of Jesus in Kampala Uganda says that leaders and all stakeholders must dialogue for the Earth, on the control in Technology, emissions, damping, policies and laws to come up with environmentally friendly agreements to protect creation on the Earth.

Uganda is one of the countries that is struggling with effects of environmental destruction with water levels in Lave Victoria have raised to over 13.32 meters from 12.00 meters as of October 1st in 2019.  This is a rise of 1.32 meters attained in only 6 months and the level is only 0.08 meters away from the highest level ever recorded in 1960s that left lave Victoria submerging Masaka road among other areas.

Any rivers flowing from the lake have caused flooding in homes, communities and roads among others leaving hundreds of families helpless.

In a report by, Action for Sustainable Development Initiative-ASDI has revealed that uncontrolled encroachment on wetlands in Greater Masaka Region because of the ongoing lockdown has left many of the formerly protected areas in Masaka, Lwengo, Rakai, Kyotera and Kalungu district cleared.

They blamed government for failing to take the necessary steps to safeguard wetlands saying serious interventions are needed to save the country from a more serious catastrophe.
