The supporters of the opposition National Unity platform (NUP) have been advised to stay strong and committed to change leadership in Uganda despite the State intimidation and death.

They made the call as the party started a prayer week to remember and pray for souls of departed members as well as those still detained in prisons following the 18th and 19th November 2020 riots in Uganda.

It is almost a year since the riots erupted in Uganda where 54 lives were lost according to the government, when people went on the streets protesting the arrest of Robert Kyagulanyi in Luuka during the presidential campaigns in November last year.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu the party president while  addressing  members at party Headquarters in  Kamwokya after prayers said that government is doing everything possible for people to denounce NUP,  stop them from  asking for change, that is why NUP members are targeted for imprisonment , abductions and others killed under unclear circumstances.

Kyagulanyi adds that although people lost their lives and others crippled by the state machinery, it’s encouraging that many including those who lost their beloved ones are still ardent supporters of NUP.

As Kyagulanyi was addressing his supporters, Police was also addressing the media at its headquarters in Nagulu where the force’s Spokesperson Fred Enanga explained the reason why they blocked the National Unity Platform -NUP Principal Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine from addressing people in Mbale and Lira in public and over the radios like BCU radio and Radio Wa last week because of the ill intentions of wanting to tarnish police image by creating scenarios that could attract police to collide and injure people.
