Voting of councilors representing People with Disabilities (PWD’s) at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has been concluded at Ntinda electoral commission offices with NRM and independents being declared the winners.

The PWD’s Councilors have been elected by the Electoral College composed of the members of the city Division PWDS executive committees.

The presiding officer for the elections of councilors representing persons with disabilities Joel Ssetimba declared NRM’s Robert Nkwangu Lutaaya as the winner.

Lutaaya who has hearing impairment won with 20 votes followed by the independent Ssalongo Ali Kalule with 5 votes.

The race attracted four candidates who include Robert Nkwangu Lutaaya (NRM), Ali Ssalongo Kalule, Defasi Gwotatya and Steven Omara all independents.

However, Gwotatya and Omara didn’t vote since they are not part of the electoral college of people with disabilities.

After being declared, Nkwangu vowed to fight for the rights of PWD’s by ensuring that they create jobs for them, ensure that they have wraps for PWDS on various buildings among others.

The electoral commission has also declared Peace Sserunkuma independent as the female Councilor representing PWDs at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) council.

Sserunkuma won with 16 votes and her competitor Aidah Zawedde the incumbent had 8 votes.

The race attracted four candidates who include Peace Sserunkuma, Aidah Zawedde, Hadijah Namusoke and one Nagasha.

Nagasha and Namusoke didn’t vote for themselves because they are not part of the Electoral College.

Sserunkuma who is physically impaired vowed to lobby for PWD’s through education, health and other government programs.
