The New Executive Director of the Uganda communication commission (UCC) George William Nyombi Thembo has appealed to media stations to do their work in accordance with the law.

 

He emphasized this shortly after swearing in as the head of the commission at its headquarters in Bugolobi saying that they are not going to tolerate media stations that work outside the law and any penalty that will be given to any media station will be through the law.

 

He revealed that his first assignment will be signing of contracts for all staffs for them to be comfortable as they are doing their work since many employees contracts expire in January 2024.

 

Among other assignments include training of staffs through governance structures and on the new technology on the market, engaging them in research, collaborating between UCC and other academia among others.

 

Nyombi adds that they are to carryout restructuring of the company but this won’t suffocate staffs and they shouldn’t be in panic and worry.

 

The minister of state for information Communication technology and national guidance Godfrey Kabyanga applauded  Eng. Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo who has been the Acting Executive director of the commission for fostering an atmosphere that has Seen growth and prosperity of the sector.

 

Nyombi Thembo the former ICT minister has signed a contract of 5years.

 

Engineer Irene Kaggwa has served in the Acting Capacity of UCC since 2000.
