The opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue  (NEED) Party says unless Government sets a minimum wage, workers will continue to face challenges at their respective work places.

The need Secretary General Asuman Odaka while addressing journalists at the party Headquarters in Lubaga Division, Kampala said that Ugandans are hardworking people but are frustrated by the low pay and weak laws in as far as protection of workers’ rights is concerned.

Odaka adds that it’s absurd that Government prioritizes foreign investors over citizens and it’s evident with President Yoweri Museveni’s refusal to set a minimum wage claiming that it will scare away investors.

He has however taken pride in the Government programs that target youth empowerment like the Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP) and the Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Youth and reforming of the education curriculum to ensure that Ugandans learn practical skills that can help them become competitive in the international job market.
