The Shadow Minister of Internal Affairs Betty Nambooze has called for the suspension of the recruitment of Police Officers.

Recently police advertised the recruitment of 2,500 Police Constables which Nambooze says is erroneous and unrealistic.

Nambooze who is also the Mukono Municipality MP argues that police cannot recruit without a budget and even in the first phase of recruitment of 2,500 Police Officers, the Government only released 12 billion shillings out of the requested 21 billion.

Nambooze proposes that the Government stays the recruitment and first prioritizes improving the welfare of the current officers through housing, uniforms, salaries, and others than recruiting more Police Officers.

In an advert issued on Tuesday last week by the Human Resource Director, AIGP Brig Jesse Kamunanwire the police commenced the exercise on February 7 expecting to end it on 18 this month by receiving applications from Ugandans between the ages of 18 and 23.
