As time draws to the day of pilgrimage at landing site of the first Catholic Missionaries in Uganda at Kigungu , Entebbe Municipality in Wakiso district this Saturday 17th February 2024, the organizing committee of the day has assured that all is set for the 145th celebrations.
The White Fathers arrived at this historical site on 17th Feb 1879. However the waters have destroyed the place which needs some urgent repairs.
Speaking to the media today at Kigungu Mapeera pilgrimage center where Fr Laudel Mapeera and Bro. Amans landed in 1879 for Evangelization, Entebbe Deanery head of laity Philip Munduni who is in the lead of the celebrations noted that on this day they will launch a fundraising drive for the renovation of the church which has been destroyed by water.
Munduni says the site would be at the level of a tourism attraction but it has been neglected. Since the water levels increased over 3 years ago in Lake Victoria the church was also submerged.
He calls on the general public to come well prepared to support the cause because it will be a shaming for such a historical place to be washed away.
