The Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke has embarked on lobbing legislatures from the Central region for the chairpersonship of the Buganda parliamentary caucus.

Nambooze who first made the announcement after swearing in as the newly elected MP for Mukono Municipality last week seemed joking, but this Wednesday she has been engaging one-on-one MPs at Parliament.

Nambooze pledges that if elected the chairperson of the Buganda parliamentary caucus, she will continue popularizing issues of Buganda and also for creation of Mengo Municipality.

Once voted, Nambooze will be replacing the outgoing chair also former Mukono South MP Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga who has served since 2019.

Buganda Caucus is the largest grouping of MPs in the 11th Parliament, bringing together more than 100 MPs, majority on the National Unity Platform with 57 legislatures ticket followed the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) with 31.

Nambooze entered the 11th Parliament on NUP ticket and she is likely to win the race that has started to fire up.
