Victims of the Nakawa-Naguru housing estates evictions have petitioned Parliament’s Adhoc committee investigating the land row in the project demanding compensation from the Government.

These led by area Members of Parliament who included; Joel Ssenyonyi of Nakawa West and Ronald Balimwezo of Nakawa East, say that ever since their eviction from the land in 2011, Government has failed to fulfill its promise of compensating them.

The land in question totals to 30 acres and was first allocated to an investor, Opec Prime properties to construct a satellite city but failed to deliver as promised.

The land was then later repossessed by Government and reallocated to new investors including; Medicine of Virginia PC company which was given 15 acres and the Uganda Heart Institute which was allocated 10 acres.

While appearing before the Adhoc committee chaired by Kazo County MP Dan Kimosho, the chairperson of the Naguru-Nakawa Registered Tenants Association, Simon Barigo said that Government should either compensate them by buying land equivalent to the one they were evicted from of 30 acres and they build for themselves or pay them 50 million shillings per project affected person.

Meanwhile, Barigo has also denied allegations that they had agreed with Government to pay the victims 17 million shillings each, which he says that it was a proposal by Government which wasn’t negotiated by the victims.

However, the area MPs; Balimwezo and Ssenyonyi said that these are mafia tricks within Government who stole the land without compensating the bonafide occupants.
