Members of Parliament on the Finance Committee have been shocked by the slow progress of the construction of the International Specialized Hospital of Uganda Lubowa that was meant to be completed in 2020 after visiting its site.

The visit to the site arose on Wednesday after the MPs rejected the Finance Minister Matia Kasaija’s request of 319 billion shillings in the next financial year to cater for the hospital’s construction costs.

The committee contested the budget following information that there was no ongoing works at the site despite Government having allocated over 400 billion shillings to the Italian developer of the site, Enrica Pinetti in 2019-2020 financial years.

One of the committee members also Otuke County MP Paul Omara said that they have been shocked to find that the construction works which are even still on the foundation  level do not commensurate with the money so far released to the developer.

The committee therefore has maintained its position of not advancing the requested money for the construction of the hospital until a value for money audit is conducted.
