The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere has attributed ineffective communication, unprofessionalism in the media industry to moral decay in the society.

His Grace Ssemogerere says this has forced the church to embark on skilling all catholic social communicators in effective means of communication in the digital age based on the social teaching of the Catholic Church to transform society.

This was in his speech presented by the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr. Charles Kasibante at the opening of the Social Communications Week for the Catholic Communicators in Uganda at Ulrika Guest House Kisubi along Entebbe road in Wakiso district.

This year’s Social Communication Week is held under the theme; “Speaking with the heart: The truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15), which is the Pope’s theme for the 57th World Communications Day 2023.

Meanwhile, the Bishop Emeritus of Lira Diocese, Rt. Rev. Joseph Franzelli has rallied Catholic Communicators to be the source of correct information that builds hope, justice and development in the society in this digital age.

Bishop Franzelli who is also the Chairman of the Social Commissions Commission at the Uganda Episcopal Conference urged the Catholic Communicators to help people and the world to know the negative effects associated with corruption and homosexuality.

The Social Communications Week has drawn over 50 catholic communicators working in the Diocesan Communications department, Radios, Televisions and the Press who are taking stock of their activities for the year from May 2022 to May 2023.

The Communicators will end the week with the celebrations of the Communications Day in Kampala Archdiocese at Lubaga Cathedral on Sunday 14th May before they return to their respective Catholic Dioceses to celebrate the main day of the World Communications Day which is marked on the Ascension Day.
