MUBS developing curriculum for women entrepreneurs in SME businesses

The Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development has revealed that Makerere University Business School (MUBS) is in the process of developing a curriculum that will enable the Ministry to engage training firms to train women entrepreneurs on core business entrepreneurship courses for micro and small enterprises. 

This is in line with the new Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) project.

This $217 million grant, a World Bank funded project, aims at increasing access to entrepreneurial services that enable female entrepreneurs to expand their enterprises in targeted locations, including host and refugee districts.

According to the Project Coordinator Alex Asiimwe, who also serves as the Commissioner of Labour, Industrial Relations at the Ministry of Gender, this is part of a wrap-around approach being used to address the myriad challenges faced by women entrepreneurs in Uganda.

Frank Mugabi the Gender Ministry Communications Officer explains that women entrepreneur groups have been engaged to participate in the grant competition so that they secure grant support from the government.

On Monday last week, a team of officials from the World Bank commenced a 10-day mission to assess the progress in implementing the new Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) project being implemented by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) is the lead implementing Agency together with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda as an implementing Entity.
