The former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has declared his plans of not quitting the National Unity Platform (NUP) but to spearhead reforms within the party across the country.

This came weeks after Mpuuga was accused of corruption that saw him being asked to resign from a prestigious parliamentary commission by his own party.

Mpuuga was accused of soliciting Shs500 million payments from the Commission – Parliament’s governing body where he was a member.

While addressing journalists at parliament on Tuesday, he stated that in a week’s time together with other colleagues they are to start a campaign of cleansing and popularizing NUP in the communities.

Mpuuga who is the NUP Vice President for Buganda Region and also the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP says that the plan is to restore the sanctity and liberating the party by condensing all habits of corruption, Tribalism, Nepotism, extortion and others within the party.

Mpuuga emphasized that being one of the founding members of NUP, he has no intentions of leaving the party but has plans to stay hence calling for an internal disciplinary investigations and deliberations on any misconduct that may arise among the leadership members instead of publicizing them.

He further expressed his worry over NUP’s focusing on simple issues of bickering instead of orchestrating plans of re-battling President Museveni’s clueless dynasty plans of ruling Uganda by transferring power to his son who has just been appointed Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) of the armed forces.

On the matter of the letters written by the NUP party President Robert Kyagulanyi withdrawing the candidature of Mpuuga as a parliamentary commission, he refrained from responding on that issue.
