A section of NRM MPs have threatened to break away from the party once President Yoweri Museveni who is also the party Chairman decides to hand over power to his son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Those who include the Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo and his counterpart of Buyaga West, Barnabas Tinkasimire say that the NRM is not a monarch to be led by one family of President Museveni.

They say if Gen. Muhoozi wishes to join politics, he should follow the right procedure rather than being imposed on the party members through undemocratic procedures.

They have also asked Muhoozi to first resign from the army as per Section 66 and 67 of the UPDF Act and then join active politics.

Meanwhile, the two legislatures have also threatened to invoke Clause 21 of the Parliamentary Rules of Procedure to force the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to recall Parliament from recess.

According to the Clause, MPs are allowed to collect signatures from their colleagues to recall the House from recess once the Speaker refuses to convene it.

Ssekikubo and Tinkasiimire say they need a justifying reason why Parliament was again suspended on Tuesday on the directives of the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja yet the Speaker had recalled it from recess.

The MPs also demand an explanation from Parliament’s Administration on the recurring debate in the public about the parliamentary exhibition claiming to expose the corruption and misuse of taxpayer’s money in the August House.
