The parliamentary Human Rights committee is set to meet the President elect Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni who also doubles as the sitting president of Uganda and the Chairperson the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party over reports of persistent kidnap and torture in the country.

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga last week directed the same committee to investigate and report to parliament within a month on allegations that security agencies were involved in arresting and torturing presidential candidates and their supporters.

Parliament also received reports that up-to-date some of the supporters of National Unity Platform-NUP are being waylaid by security in vans known as “Drones” and taken to unknown destinations.

Speaking to the chairperson of the committee Janepher Nantume Egunyu said that Museveni, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, DP’s-Norbert Mao, FDC’s Patrick Amuriati and others will appear before the committee including the police, Uganda Human Rights Commission, and victims to this effect starting next week.

Before this was concluded another report of the missing National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate for the Northern Region youth parliamentary seat Boniface Young, a resident of Koboko district who disappeared on Sunday afternoon shortly after leaving his hotel room in Gulu City to print his campaign posters according to His polling agent, Ali Baisel and have failed to trace his whereabouts.

He is contesting with Daniel Obal (Independent), Kelvin Ocaya (ANT), Patrick Odera (FDC) and Boniface Okot (NRM) in their Electoral College elections who’s Voting kicked off this afternoon with 1,731 delegates drawn from West Nile, Lango, Karamoja and Acholi Regions.

Gulu District Police Commander, Dickens Bindeeba and Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, say they are not aware of the incident.
