Members of Parliament have asked the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among for urgent action to be taken on the coffee agreement between Uganda and Vinci Coffee Company Ltd.

This arose after Buhweju MP Francis Mwijukye raised a matter of concern saying coffee farmers in their constituencies are threatening them and others have vowed to cut their coffee trees to show their dissatisfaction with the agreement.

MPs have further informed the Speaker that the electorates have warned them never to return to their constituencies once there’s no action taken against the agreement in favor of the farmers.

In reply, Among assured the house that the matter was directed to the Committee of Parliament on Trade and soon a report will be tabled in the house and action will be taken based on the committee findings.

The deal signed between the Finance Ministry and Uganda Vinci prohibits anybody from buying the country’s harvest until “this company gets the quota they want which is seen as being unfair for local exporters.
