The Member of Parliament for Buyaga East Eric Musana has called for a holistic overview of tax administrations in the country rather than a partial approach of solving tax regimes.

Musana who also sits on the Parliamentary Finance committee says the actions of addressing oppressing and unjustified tax regimes in piecemeal for certain categories won’t solve the problem.

He says even the act of always waiting for the president to solve the failed public matters must stop because it exposes the weaknesses of the already responsible administrative units in the country.

His argument arise from the meeting that president Museveni held with the leadership of the traders last week on Friday 19th April 2024 who were on strike for unjustified taxes in clouding the e-receipting system known as Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution (EFRIS).

MP Musana further proposed for an even distribution of tax regulation system to eliminate the syndrome of the poor to pay high and the rich to pay less.

Meanwhile, the opposition National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) has called on the government to review policies on mobile money and tax systems that are not favorable to locals in business.

Speaking to the media at party headquarters in Lubaga division on Monday, Charles Basajja, the NEED Treasurer noted that mobile money agents across the country shouldn’t be allowed to demand for national identity cards before a customer transacts more than Shs1m on the platform among others.
