Parliament has this afternoon granted permission the Western Region Youth Representative Mwine Mpaka to introduce a private members bill that seeks to amend the Uganda Development Bank act to allow youths development activities be incorporated into its activities.

Mpaka was seconded by the Female Youth MP Anna Adeke Ebaju who informed parliament they want the bank to engage into development financing instead of commercial work as this is the only way they would be able to support youth projects.

Mpaka also says that government has had a number of youth projects but few have benefitted and compliancy in pay back is still low justifying that having a one depository will enable government monitor the funds better.

Mpaka’s motion was supported by the Ntejeru North’s Amos Lugoloobi and Kalungu West MP Joseph Sewungu who noted that it was important to have a mechanism on the utilization of these funds so that they can benefit the young people.

However this was opposed by the Nakaseke North MP Syda Bbumba who explained that UDB does not have branches all over the country and hence this will be very hard for young people to benefit from this.

This did not stop parliament from granting the youth mps leave to come up with the amendment bill.
