The State Minister of Higher Education Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has urged supporters of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party to begin analyzing skilled leaders ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking to reporters’ moments after verifying his name in the ongoing NRM register update at Kakoola village in Bamunanika Sub-County, Muyingo emphasized the importance of using this period to determine who will be able to provide excellent governance during the next elections.

The update of the NRM party register began on Wednesday and will be completed on Sunday.

During the activity, the party aims to register new supporters.

Meanwhile the absence of National IDs has affected the registration and the update of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party register in Nakaseke district.

National IDs are proof of citizenship and village registrars require NINs for each member registration however Muhamood Bukenya Yiga, the NRM Administrative Secretary says that although the exercise has been ongoing smoothly, several residents who had turned for registration and update failed to present their National IDs as they are being held by moneylenders as collateral security after extending loans to them.

Kabuye Kyofatogabye, the State Minister for Kampala Metropolitan Affairs made impromptu visits to Kiwoko town and Kikamulo Sub County in Nakaseke to assess the progress of the NRM update exercise and it’s from his visit that NRM chairperson asked him to follow up on the matter to compel money lenders to surrender the IDs to residents.
