The Minister of Works and transport Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has denied discrediting the ongoing parliamentary probe on Uganda Airlines.

This follows a video clip that went viral on social media in which the minister was watched undermining the powers of the committee and cautioning the manner in which the investigations are conducted, saying the probe through the negative media coverage could cripple what he called ‘the young airline.

Appearing before the committee on Thursday, Gen. Katumba said that he was misquoted and the communication was targeting the media which was portraying the Airline in a negative perspective before the world.

Gen Katumba was still before the committee to answer more queries in regard to the 2020/21 auditor report that shows mismanagement and losses incurred in the airline operations.

COSASE, in its investigations found that the airline was paying its managers and directors exorbitantly yet it was making losses.

The Auditor General’s report indicated that the Uganda Airlines chief executive officer earns Sh87m and director maintenance shs80m.

Others are manager ICT at shs36m, human resource at sh43m, manager cargo at sh14m, and manager quality assurance at sh43m.
