The Democratic Party (DP) President General also former presidential candidate in the 2021 elections, Norbert Mao wants the parliamentary Human Rights committee be chaired by the opposition.

Mao’s plea came while interfacing with the committee chaired by Agnes Taaka who is from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) representing people of Bugiri as the Woman Member of Parliament.

Mao says that in most cases the committee tends to bow down to the requests of NRM especially where a human right violation committed, discredits the sitting regime which has affected the honoring and respect of human rights in the country.

Mao was sharing his experience during the conclude general elections where he affirmed that he was subjected to brutal act, denied access to public media channels, infringing on his private life by tapping his phones and others.

The committee was assigned to investigate all human rights violation acts after NUP leader candidate Robert Kyagulanyi reported to parliament over the indiscriminate arrests of his supporters, others tortured and poisoned with trail.

Meanwhile the committee also received similar complaints from former presidential candidates like Joseph Kabuleta, and Willy Mayambala and tomorrow the committee will interface with NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi and Gen Mugisha Muntu.
