Mandela National Stadium land titles cleared.

The Ministry of Lands and Urban Development has today handed over three land titles for Mandela national stadium to the ministry of education and sports as well as the management of the stadium.

The over 20 years national sports facility has been hosted on three pieces of land without titles.

On receiving the titles on behalf of government and management of the stadium, state minister for sports, Hon. Obua Benson referred the handover of the titles to a historical event to the country adding that this is inclusive evidence that the country and shareholders have conclusive ownership of the facility.

Obua who saluted the land commission and education ministry officials for the job well done then turned to the stadium management to ensure that it jealously protects that land from encroachers and land grabbers.

However, the permanent secretary ministry of lands and urban development, Docus Okalani confirms handing over three land titles to the education ministry and Mandela national stadium management.

The permanent secretary ministry of education and sports, James Kakooza confirms that they are now going to embark on short, medium and long term phased renovation of the facility which have for long been halted due to the absence of land titles.

Among the renovations to be done include, pitch, dressing room, media room, flood lights renovation, setting up of volleyball and basketball facilities, swimming pools among other facilities to make the stadium meet the required global standards.

Mandela stadium is the only sports facility in Uganda which meets the CAF AND FIFA standards but the failure to always renovate the facility, CAF suspended the stadium from hosting this year’s CAF competition and this forced Uganda to opt for staging games from neighboring countries.

Government bought 103 plots on Kyadondo Block 232 and Block 234 to build a stadium in 1989 but 120 acres have so far been encroached on.
