Ministry of Internal Affairs is under consultations of coming up with reviewed deadline dates of phasing out all the old passports which are to be replaced by the East African Community electronic passports.

This followed a notice that made rounds on social media over the weekend allegedly from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), appealing to Ugandans to renew their passports in the next five months.

Earlier, Ministry of International Affairs had set January 31st 2020 in relation to the EAC’s dates of January 15th 2021 as the deadline for phasing out all old passports but upon an extension, the process got affected with the COVID-19 lockdown.

Now, addressing journalists at Media Center in Kampala today, the Ministry’s Spokesman Jacob Siminyu says that they will soon come up with the reviewed deadline dates after the consultations from the six partner states of EAC.

Meanwhile, four people were held over the weekend at Kitgum in Northern Uganda illegally sneaking into Uganda through illegal entry points as explained by Siminyu.
