The Democratic Party-DP has been advised to revise the Cooperation Agreement it entered with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Government if it’s to avoid the theory code named “it’s our time to eat”.

On July 20th, 2022, DP led by its President, Norbert Mao signed a cooperation agreement with the NRM Government with an aim of a peaceful transition of power in Uganda.

On Tuesday, the cooperation agreement has been brought before the DP Women League and other DP members in a conference which was held in Kampala via Zoom to discuss and enlighten members about the agreement.

Among the facilitators was, Prof. Julius Kizza Akiiki, a Lecturer of Political Science and Development at Makerere University who discussed the agreement and left many confused as to whether it was made for the party or for a few individuals who have already started gaining ministerial posts.

While addressing the gathering, Prof. Kizza rubbished the agreement and warned DP party members on a number of issues that do not reflect in the agreement, like when and how the transition will take place and the timeline of the agreement which is slated for only this term of office.

However, in response the party General Secretary, Gerald Siranda asserted that the position of DP in this agreement is to see things working out after trying out several measures but did not yield the expected results.

He also confidently added that this move will enable a peaceful transition of power in Uganda, something that has never been witnessed since independence.
