Government has disclosed that it has only one year left for the completion of the Kampala Industrial Business Park (KIBP) Development Work Project.

The five year design and building contract for the development of the Kampala Industrial and Business Park Infrastructure Project was given to Lagan-Dott Namanve Limited after the Government through the Finance Ministry secured a 215 million Euros loan from the UK Export Finance in 2019.

Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Privatization and Investment while touring the works today noted that the current physical progress of the project stands at approximately 40 percent though it is impressive.

Anite noted that they are to meet with the contractor to find ways of beating the deadline of completing the KIBP development project by next year.

Eng. Andrew Bamanya, the authorized representative of Lagan-Dott Namanve Limited says the project has been slow due to a number of contractual hurdles that have had to be navigated, coupled with hindrances to mobilization efforts occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown.

He says that they are hopeful that the remaining 60 percent development work of the project will be addressed within the specified period of time.

KIBP is located approximately 11km East of Central Kampala and covers an area of about 890 hectares approximately 8.9km and the government plans for it to become a model industrial park for the rest of the country.
