The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi has confirmed having written to the government investigative entities to express interest in the financial Management system at parliament.

Addressing journalists at parliament, Ssenyonyi who is also the Nakawa West Member of Parliament says that he has already requested entities like the Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA), Inspector General of Government (IGG), Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), and the Auditor General (AG) to start investigations into the mismanagement of public funds at parliament mainly in the office of the speaker Anita Among.

He says the reference of investigations is mainly on high travel allowances of the Speaker Anita Among, irregular recruitment of staff close to 200, billions of money deposited on staff accounts, a contract of over Sh3bn awarded to Maama Bukedea FM owned by the Speaker and acquisition of luxurious assets among others.

LoP Ssenyonyi has also revealed requesting the same bodies to investigate the Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige who he says is the Parliamentary Accounting Officer who should provide safeguards on any kind of fraud in parliament.

He says the clerk should explain how he authorized such huge amounts to the Speaker and on the accounts of the staff which is illegal.

Ssenyonyi has further asked the speaker Among to be honorable and refund the taxpayers’ money and to the Inspector General of Government not to cowardice from investigating mismanagement of funds in Parliament.

Ssenyonyi has asked the culprits in threatening the whistle-blowers on the money bonanza in parliament to provide accountability to the public but not intimidate people and playing cheap politics of blaming their predecessors in parliament that they are fighting and wanting to reclaim their positions.
