Leaders of various groups of traders within Kampala led by KACITA-Uganda have on Wednesday afternoon been directed to go for COVID test ahead of their meeting with President Museveni on Friday 19th April at State House Entebbe.

Earlier plans had indicated that the president would meet all traders at Kololo ceremonial grounds but there has been change in the venue and the meeting will start at 10am.

The traders under their umbrella body KACITA-Uganda have entered the second day of their protest by closing their operation premises due to their dissatisfaction against the implementation of the e-receipting system by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) known as Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Systems (EFRIS), the Chinese involvement in local trading, High taxation among others.

In a meeting held on Wednesday afternoon at Fairway hotel in Kampala, the State Minister for Kampala Kabuye Kyofatogabye failed to convince the traders to relax on their knot and made it clear that President Museveni should listen from them and make a final decision over their grievances.

According to the Deputy Spokesperson for KACITA-Uganda Sulaiman Matovu, they are presenting SIX points out of 12 to the president and they are; Challenge against the implementation of EFRIS, URA enforcement style, VAT collection system, measuring of textile in Kilograms, the challenge of vendors in Kikuubo and along the streets of Kampala and lastly hygiene and sanitation around the city Centre.

Matovu has however condemned some elements used by politicians to derail traders and other like minded Ugandans who want government agencies and authorities to take fair and informed policy implementation mechanisms rather than thinking of intimidation and oppressing others for their selfish interests.

This came as a group of three unidentified members infiltrated the meeting at Fairway and wanted to force the traders to open their businesses tomorrow before meeting President Museveni on Friday.
