Passengers have been advised to defy over charging in public transport.

In his end of year address president Museveni allowed public transport to resume operation at full capacity with strict observance of SOPs.

Muhammad Ssempijja, a leader in Namayuba taxi park told journalists this Monday that since public transport is carrying full capacity, operators should go back to original transport fares as it was before the lockdown.

Ssempijja adds that although fuel prices are relatively high, operators should not use it as a pretext to overcharge passengers and he feared for the children who are going back to school next week when parents have been hard hit by Covid-19 in terms of earning.

He says passengers should not allow overcharging and if it happens, let them note the registration number of the taxi for the driver to be held responsible by law.

Meanwhile Musitafa Mayambala Deputy Chairman of the Uganda Taxi operators Federation (UTOF) has called upon security personnel to stop offloading taxis which are now carrying full capacities because it’s not illegal.
