Members of Parliament have asked the government to allocate funds for the supervision of schools before and after reopening on 10th this month.

Speaking to Waksio Woman MP Betty Naluyima said that she has found challenges within her district were District Education officers and Town council education officers approach her claiming to be unable to supervise schools due to no facilitation for fuel.

She says this is likely to fail the government, especially where supervision is needed to see whether school proprietors are binding or not with the Ministry of Health procedures of SOPs to prevent the spread of COVID-19 amongst students or pupils.

It’s from this that Naluyima appealed to parliament to at least increase the local governments budgets to 20% and also create a special fund for both private and public schools to enable them reopen especially now that some schools are on the edge of collapsing.

Meanwhile, the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament Shamim Malende has called on government to intervene between school administrations and parents to enable students return to schools and learn without interruption or oppressing parents who have been in a two years covid lockdown.

She also supports the idea of setting up a special grant to schools to borrow at a lower or free interest rate to avoid pressuring parents of school fees in a shorter period after reopening schools.
