A sharp row has erupted between the Buganda Kingdom royals and business man Dr. Mohammed Bawule Kasasa over land ownership.

The disputed land is seated on four plots of 56, 48, 59 and 29 on Mutungo Hill.

Prince David Kintu Wasajja informed the justice Catherine Bamugemereire’s led Land Inquiry Commission that the property belonged to their father late Kabaka Sir Edward Walugembe Muteesa who became its registered proprietor in 1946, measuring up 640 acres.

Prince Wasajja said the property ownership had fraudulently shifted to Dr. Kasasa when the royal family had been forced to exile in 1960’s by the past regimes.

However Dr. Kasasa maintains that he had acquired the property from the Barclays bank in 1978/9 on auction, after its previous proprietor: Lake View Properties firm failed to clear the mortgage with the bank.

But the same property has been a subject of investigations by the Commission since June last year after learning that it had been sold off by Dr. Kasasa to government at over 9 billion shilling with 2.4bnshs initial payment made to him.

This compelled the Probe Team to alert the Finance Ministry to halt the remaining 7billion shillings payment, till investigations into the matter are complete.

Wasajja who was flanked by his lawyers including Medard Lubega Ssegona, requested the Commission to block Dr. Kasasa’s transaction, insisting the property was fraudulently acquired.
