Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has today launched the Kampala festive season speed limit campaign aimed at reducing over-speeding.

 

The campaign seeking to show the deadly harms of exceeding speed limits is Kampala, is the city’s first under the Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road safety partnership and it targets male motorists between the ages of 18 and 45.

 

While launching the campaign, the Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago says it will illustrate the dangers of speeding to road users and it will deter risky road users’ behaviour hence calling for more funding for the Authority especially in the department of infrastructure.

 

The Fort Portal Central Division Member of Parliament who is also the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Forum for Road Safety, Alex Ruhunda vows to engage Parliament’s Budget Committee to ensure that it allocates shs 120 billion for road safety in the coming financial year budget for 2023/24.

 

Meanwhile, the Traffic Police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima welcomes the campaign and reveals that last year alone in December, 473 people died due to road accidents thus appealing to drivers to be extra vigilant while on the road and also appealed to passengers especially those using Bodabodas to speak out in case the riders ride recklessly.
