At least 35,000 bodaboda riders and owners have been captured in the Kampala Capital City Authority –KCCA registration exercise, Kampala Minister Minsa Kabanda has disclosed.

The Registration of Boda Bodas in Kampala started on August 15, at eleven centers spread in the five divisions of Kampala and it was later on September 1 extended to 16th this month due to the huge number of riders and owners who flocked the registration centers at the last minute.

Minister Kabanda says those registered first will be considered first in getting driving permits and be allowed to operate in Kampala starting on Monday, September 19th, 2022.

Kabanda adds that this has been done to streamline the Bodaboda industry and that they will be using reasonable force to eliminate all of those who have not registered.

The registration has been undertaken as part of the efforts to streamline operations of Boda Bodas in Kampala and deal with the security threat posed by criminals who disguise themselves as Boda Boda riders according to KCCA.

Earlier records from KCCA indicate that there are more than 100,000 Boda Bodas in Kampala.
