Molly Katanga, a widow to the deceased businessman Henry Katanga has been remanded to Luzira prison for murdering her husband. 

 

The 55 year old Molly was produced at the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s court on Wednesday at around 11:30 am in a police ambulance from IHK hospital surrounded by police doctors.

 

Molly who has been on wanted by the court since early November 2023 has finally appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza wrapped in bandages all over her head and hand bands on her arms before she was read the murder charges.

 

The state prayed for the accused to be committed to the High Court since the investigations in the matter were completed.

 

On Monday January 22nd 2024 when the case came up for mention, two of Molly’s daughters; Patricia Kakwanzi and Martha Nkwanzi who are also linked to the same case, were committed to the High Court.

 

Meanwhile, in the investigation evidence presented by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) led by Jonathan Muwaganya said that the DNA on the trigger of the pistol collaborated with that of Molly Katanga, they also discovered one live ammunition, one cartridge, one pistol box containing 17 rounds of ammunitions but also the critical cameras that could provide further information had been tampered with.

 

The accused’s lawyers led by senior counsel Peter Kabatsi have asked court to order Luzira prison to get the medical facilities which will manage their client’s health condition  and also asked court to order the police to vacate the accused’s premises and surrender the bedroom key to them so that family members can access the home.

 

Relatedly, the High Court Judge Isaac Muwata has fixed January 29th, 2024 for the hearing of the bail application of Molly Katanga and her co-accused after the DDP successfully challenged the jurisdiction of the Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court to entertain the pre-trial of the accused.
