The March 23 Movement (M23) President Bertrand Bisimwa has appointed administrative leaders in areas under rebel control in North Kivu Province. 

In a statement released on Wednesday, Bisimwa appointed Prince Mpambuka as the Administrator of Rutshuru territory.   Mpambuka will be deputized by Dr. Salomon Bolingo.

Désiré Kanyamarere has been appointed as the Chief of Bunagana town, Julien Katembo as the chief of Kiwanja town, and Célestin Maguru to head Rubare town.

Desire Rukomera was appointed as the head of the Mobilization and Ideology Department, deputized by Pascal Uzamukunda and Jean-Louis Kulu.

Lawrence Kanyuka has been appointed head of the Communication and Media department, deputized by Oscar Balinda.

Others are Bahati Musanga who was appointed the head of the Finance and Production department and will be deputized by Jean-Bosco Mupenzi Nzabonimpa.

Bisimwa says that the appointments take immediate effect.

The DRC government is yet to release a statement reacting to M23 appointments.

The appointments come six days after M23 rebels admitted to the killing of two of their commanders in a drone strike of their position in Kitchanga, Masisi territory by Armed Forces of Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), militia coalition under their umbrella Wazalendo (Patriots) and troops under Southern African Development Community (SADC) troops.
