The Inter Religious Council of Uganda – IRCU together with the Uganda Aids Commission –UAC has officially commenced the implementation of the National Faith Based HIV Action Plan across the country.

The Faith Sector Action Plan 2021/22-2024/25 was launched by President Yoweri Museveni represented by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on December, 1 this year during the IRCU 4th Consultative Assembly in Kampala.

According to IRCU, the Action Plan is a coordinated and sustained contribution of the Faith Sector to accelerate efforts to the national HIV and AIDS response and end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.

Addressing a joint press conference at IRCU headquarters in Rubaga, the Chairperson Council of Presidents Most Rev. Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu says that the Action plan will be implemented by the Faith Sector including faith communities and faith based organizations within their respective mandates.

Dr. Eddie Mukooyo, Board Chairman Uganda AIDS Commission –UAC is confident that the development of the National HIV/AIDS Action Plan for the faith sector will enable the country achieve more in the four thematic areas of HIV Prevention, Care and treatment, Social support and protection and other enabling environment services as well as Systems strengthening for a harmonized response.
