Police have refuted allegations circulated on social media that the recently intercepted 15 Marabou Storks were meant to be sold at Namugongo during the Uganda Martyrs day celebrations over the weekend.

This comes after the arrest of four suspects including; Herbert Masika, Dick Mwinguzi, Dickson Kato and Peter Tumukunde for unlawful possession of the birds at Lusanja Zone in Kiteezi Parish, Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson says the allegations that these birds were to be sold at Namugongo were intended to tarnish the activities at the Martyrs celebrations.

He says the preliminary investigations indicate that the birds were being packed to Congo and the prime suspect, Innocent Banaras, a Congolese national who is still at large was in charge of transporting them.

Enanga however says that the four suspects involved in the unlawful possession of the wild species are waiting to be aligned before court.
