The Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola has ordered all Regional Police Commanders to immediately implement President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to remove all roadblocks and barriers on the highways.

President Museveni directed the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja on Wednesday last week to ensure that concerned agencies implement his orders with immediate effects to stop impeding the free movement of goods.

Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson said these roadblocks were put on highways during the COVID-19 in 2020 to block travellers who were not in the category of essentials.

He urges the Associations of all traders and the public to report any police officer they find staging any road block on highways to the National Operations Command because they are now considered illegal.

Enanga also revealed that officers attached to the Integrated Highways Police will remain patrolling all the major roads and highways in efforts of maintaining security and fighting crime.

Police officers that will be found staging roadblocks and barriers will be arrested according to Enanga.
