Government has advised farmers in areas that are expected to experience near-normal to above-normal rainfall to begin planting long maturing crops and later plant short maturing crops.

This advice has been issued by the State Minister for Environment, Beatrice Anywar while updating the country about the September to December 2023 Seasonal Rainfall Outlook in different parts of the country.

She indicated that the country will experience above-normal rainfall over several parts of the country, most especially around the Lake Victoria basin and the hilly areas of Rwenzori and the Elgon region.

The Minister asked farmers to make use of the seasonal rains by optimizing crop yields through appropriate land use management and also plant adequate food for both domestic use and for sale since Uganda has a ready market in neighboring countries.

Anywar also advised communities in flood and landslide prone areas to vacate in time for their safety as some parts of the country are expected to experience natural disasters.
