Government has allocated Shs600 million to fight the FallĀ African Armyworm that has devastated farm lands in at least 38 districts most of them found in central region of Uganda.

 

The pest is beloved to have broken out last month and has already affected over 5000 hectares of mainly maize farms in districts of Mityana, Busia, Lyatonde, Wakiso and Mukono among others.

 

In a press conference at the Uganda media center this Tuesday, the Minister of State for Agriculture Fred Kyakulaga Bwino says the government has procured over 23,000 liters of chemical, spray equipment, protective gears to help in combating more spread of the pest in already affected areas.

 

He has advised farmers to use the Sypamthelim pesticide as a measure to protect their crops from getting destroyed.

 

Kyakulaga meanwhile, appealed the farmers to remain calm as government is fighting teeth and nail to stop the pest because it’s presence scares food security in the country.
