The opposition in parliament have vowed to petition parliament and courts of laws against the termination of the coffee agreement.

The agreement was signed between the government of Uganda through the Finance Ministry and the VINCI Company that gives monopoly to the company in the coffee export.

Addressing a news conference at parliament, the Shadow Minister for Agriculture who is also the Kimanya Kabonera legislator Dr Abed Bwanika said that the agreement contravenes the country’s policy of free market economy which if implemented will kick out many Ugandans out of the coffee business.

Dr Michael Lulume Bayiga, Buikwe South MP, warned that if the memorandum of understanding is allowed to operate, many Ugandans dealing in the coffee industry will be kicked out of the business and appealed to parliament to establish the directors of the company.

Geoffrey Kayemba Solo, Bukomansimbi South MP, noted that this agreement is taking the country back to the colonial era.

Christine Nakimwero Kaaya, Kiboga district woman MP noted that it will be unfair for the company that entered a MoU with the government to be given electricity at a cheaper cost compared to other Ugandan companies.
