Stephen Tashobya, the Commissioner for Electoral Commission has cautioned some state actors who have made it a habit to disrupt opposition political candidates while being hosted on media talk shows to stop or else they face the law.

Presenting a keynote address at the ongoing public dialogue on the implication of scientific elections on freedom of assembly, expression, and media freedom, Tashobya revealed that the commission is trying to engage RDCs, among other state actors, on   the new way political campaigns are now being held.

He further notes that the commission intends to hold a disease-free election to protect Ugandans.

Meanwhile, the Principal School of Law at Makerere University, Prof. Christopher Mbazira expressed strong doubt over Uganda’s readiness and willingness to hold scientific elections.

But the head of legal services at UCC, Abdul Salim Waiswa confirms that they have set a concussive atmosphere for candidates to hold campaigns on media platforms but the vice-chairperson national association of broadcasters Dr. Innocent Nahabwe proposes that govt provides some payments for free media space for candidates to spread their message on radio and television as this will create a levelled platform.
