Ambassador Wassawa Birigwa has stepped down for Patrick Amuriat Oboi to run for the President on the Forum for Democratic Party FDC flag come 2021 general elections.

In their extraordinary National Council meeting at their headquarters at Najjanankumbi meeting to determine the party presidential flag bearer, the party also extended the term of service for the party leaders for 3 years to avoid a vacuum that would be created if the term for the current leadership expired this year according to the Acting party president Hon.Nabossa Ssebugwawo.

Nabossa said they cannot have new leaders who are not elected through the National Conference as stipulated in the party constitution.

Wassawa Birigwa shortly after stepping down revealed that they traversed the whole country seeking for support but he noticed that the party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi has more support at the grass root  than him which made him believe that Amuriat can do better in the 2021 general elections. He re-affirmed his commitment to unite the party members.

The party Electoral Commission chairman Bonefance Toterebuka Bamwenda declared Oboi as the FDC party flag bearer.

After his declaration Amuriat Oboi advised the party members to observe the SOPs set by the ministry of health against Covid-19 when looking for votes but warned the ruling party NRM members to also respect the SOPs to stop the spread of Covid-19.
