Priests, religious and Christians from Masaka diocese have converged at Bukalasa Seminary for the final send off of the late Rev. Fr. Francis Sarezi Muwonge who passed on yesterday at the age of 88.

Fr. Muwonge served for 59 years as a priest since his ordination in 1963 September and worked in the Parishes; Matale, Kalungu, Lukaya, Lwaggulwe, Vira Maria and also in Republic of Rwanda.

Fr. Muwonge, an out spoken priest has been battling diabetes and pressure since 2019 at his last posting in Matale Parish where he was the assistance Parish Priest.

At the requiem mass led by the Vicar General of Masaka diocese Msgr. Dr. Dominic Ssengooba, he described the late Fr. Muwonge as a true priest, loving and always yearned for true leadership that supports growth and development for all.

The late has also been credited for his support for the orphaned children to attain education and vulnerable parents. He also donated his land located at Bukakata to the Church to have a recreation center constructed like a beach for the priests to enjoy or rest.

The former Masaka district Woman Member of Parliament Babirye Kabanda, a niece to the late appreciated him for his exemplary service not only in the Catholic Church but also to his Country Uganda when he came out against any form of injustice.

Meanwhile, the Apostolic Administrator of Kampala Archdiocese Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere has announced the death of Rev. Msgr. Alex Mukasa who has served the archdiocese and the church at large in various capacities.

Msgr. Mukasa’s last appointment was the Senior Secretary in the chancery with residence at St. Paul Priests’ Centre Nabbingo. His burial arrangement will be communicated in the due course.
