Former Uganda Airlines Executive Director, Cornwell Muleya has revealed to court that he declined to respond to the Inspector General of Government’s letter on assumption that it was from a scam group.

 

Muleya who appeared on Friday before Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza to defend himself on charges of disobeying lawful orders that required him to appear and answer to allegations of mismanagement of public funds, procurement and recruitment of Staff at Uganda Airlines in May this year by the IGG’s office.

 

Muleya explained that an email from one Achana which he received in his junk emails, caught him by surprise, wondering how and why such an important matter came in such a way yet his home was known where a document could have been delivered which scared him and thought that it could have come from scammers until he asked his lawyers to verify it.

 

He further stated that the attachment in the email from Achana that was received on May 24th, 2022 summoning him to appear in the IGG’s office with his passport had no date and the signatory which scared him as a foreigner thus waiting to first verify it.

 

The Presiding Grade One Magistrate Asuman Muhumuza has set the October 28th, 2022.

 

It is alleged that on May 23, 2022, the Inspectorate of Government-IG summoned Muleya to provide documents regarding the mismanagement of Public funds, procurements, and recruitment of staff at Uganda Airlines.

 

But Muleya failed to show up without any justifiable reason prompting the IG to arrest him on June 22nd, 2022 for disobeying lawful orders.

 

Muleya was subsequently charged but he denied the allegations prompting the prosecutors to conduct a trial with three witnesses.
