The Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II is expected to address the Kingdom on Saturday in commemoration of Bulungi Bwansi day which is normally celebrated on every October 8th.

This day is usually celebrated in the county locally called ‘Ssaza’ that has performed well compared to others in terms of implementing the Kingdom’s agenda especially in ensuring that the Kabaka’s subjects receive better services.

This year, the celebrations had been scheduled to be held in Kyagwe.

Speaking to the press at Bulange Mengo on Friday ahead of the celebrations, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga noted that this year Bulungi Bwansi won’t be conducted as earlier had planned due to the outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

He says that this has been done to avoid big gatherings of people that could easily facilitate the spread of Ebola among Kabaka’s subjects.

The Buganda Premier says that instead immediately after the Kabaka’s message before the media, he will visit Kyagwe County on October 24th to handover gifts that are usually given to the winning county.

He emphasized that this year each Kingdom’s County will conduct Bulungi Bwansi activities especially by planting trees to curb the increasing acts of deforestation.

Bulungi Bwansi also marks the day Buganda Kingdom regained her independence from the British colonial rule and is marked every October 8.

The celebrations are held at the Saza or county headquarters of the Kabaka’s choice where he is joined by other members of the royal family and the public to celebrate the event.
