The Ministry of Internal Affairs has asked all Foreign Students in Uganda to register with Immigration Department with immediate effect to get their student pass to be legally recognized.
The Commissioner Immigration Control, Col. Geoffrey Kambere reveals that any student failing to register will be charged 20 dollars everyday as a penalty.
He made the remarks while briefing the meeting on matters pertaining to student pass facilities for Foreign Students at Hotel African today.
According to Kambere, students can apply for their student pass via the Immigration online portal for those who cannot move to regional service offices and each pass costs 100 dollars of which are issued in the period of 3-6 months.
In relation to the above, there are several regional service offices around the country which includes Kampala, Mbarara, Mbale, Gulu, and very soon in Arua hence appealing to foreign students to reach out to these offices for registration.
However, he argued all Foreign workers like Lecturers to get their work permits from immigration and failure to do so will be sent back to their countries.
