The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has asked the Division Police Commander -DPC of Kasangati to immediately withdraw his officers from the four time presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye’s residence.

While briefing the media at their party headquarter at Najjanankumbi, the FDC Deputy Secretary General, Harold Kaija says that police should immediately release Besigye from his house arrest since his actions to protest show that the situation is getting out of hand as fuel prices continue to rise hence calling on Ugandans to join him to fight for their rights.

Last week, police arrested Dr. Besigye a few meters away from his residence in Kasangati foiling his planned walk to work demonstration in protest of the uncontrollable escalating prices of goods in the country.

Following his arrest, he was driven back to his home and placed under house arrest and since then, he hasn’t been allowed to come out of his home.

But Kaija advises the Government to borrow a leaf from neighboring countries like Tanzania which increased the minimum wage by 23 percent and Kenya by 12 percent instead of putting unnecessary tax charges on imports which is also worsening the increment of commodity prices in Uganda.

Meanwhile, Kaija has asked the Government to focus more on constructing good standard roads in order to reduce the frequent accidents happening across the country these days.

He says everyday more than 21 people lose their lives in accidents and 7,665 people are said to die annually of which 42 are pedestrians due to the narrowness of most roads across the country.
