Following the nomination of candidates for the Omoro County parliamentary by-election last week, the Police have warned politicians, campaign managers and supporters against involving themselves into acts of violence.

Only six candidates out of the 12 that picked the nomination forms were fully nominated by the Omoro District Returning Officer Moses Kagona to contest for the seat that fell vacant after the death of the former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.

The six candidates are; Jimmy Walter Onen and Terence Odonga both independents, Andrew Ojok Oulanyah of NRM, Simon Tolit Akecha of NUP, Oscar Kizza of ANT and Justine Odong of FDC.

The Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga says that they won’t allow campaigns beyond 6pm and any acts of civil obedience, provocative behavior towards security personnel, dangerous and reckless driving, intimidation, acts of hooliganism and defacing posters among other unlawful acts won’t be tolerated in Omoro County parliamentary elections.

He says that they will only allow public campaigns and rallies in Omoro County scheduled by the Electoral Commission- EC and they have already disseminated a comprehensive policing plan to the territorial commander of Aswa Region for implementation.

Enanga adds that task teams from the Criminal Intelligence Directorate –CID have been dispatched to Omoro district to record videos on campaign trails by documenting the conduct of respective politicians.

According to the EC program, the candidates will have 10 days to campaign and rally support across Omoro Country from today May 16th to Tuesday May 24th, 2022 and the polls will be conducted on May 26th, 2022.
